October 2024

Message from the Principal

Dear Clark community,

October is here, and I am so proud of the wonderful start to our school year! It’s been incredible to watch your children grow and thrive. Our teachers are working hard to ensure each day is filled with learning, discovery, and fun.

As we settle into the routine, I’d like to take a moment to remind everyone how important regular attendance is to your child’s success. Every day they are here is a chance for them to build essential skills, create friendships, and explore new ideas. Please help your child maintain a strong attendance record—it makes a world of difference!

Thank you for your continued support and for being such an important part of our school community. We look forward to seeing your child’s bright smile every day as we continue our journey through this exciting school year.

Warmly,

Caitlin Smith

Math Connection- Number Sense with "Basket Toss"

Materials: 5 toss-able objects (i.e. beanbags); large basket; paper to record points; marker/crayon

"Today we are going to shoot some baskets with beanbags." Show your child how to play- stand 3 feet from the basket and toss your beanbags toward the basket. Count each shot aloud (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) making (and missing) a few shots. Together, count the number of shots you made, and write the number using dots, tally marks, or numbers on the paper. Now, its your child's turn!

Questions to ask: How many baskets can you shoot? What was the biggest number of baskets you made? What was the smallest?

Leader in Me 🌳

Habit 1- Be Proactive

As a family, take a deeper look at Habit 1 with this activity:

I’m in Charge of Me- I am in charge of my life. I am responsible for my choices and behaviors. I can choose how I react to other people or situations.

STEPS TO TAKING CONTROL OF YOU

1. Pause: Stop what you are doing and pause.

2. Think: Think about what you should or shouldn’t do.

3. Choose: Choose the best thing to do.

Family Activity: Using the ā€œCircle of Controlā€ below to take turns writing on sticky notes different things you can and cannot control then placing them in the corresponding circles. For example, you can control how you respond to problems. You cannot control the weather. You can control the words you say. You cannot control what others may say.
