The 2024-25 school year is starting to wind down! We are taking time in April to focus on the OST's and preparing for the end of the school year. We have a number of fun events for our students and families and would like for everyone to participate. Let's work together to finish the school year strong!
Our habit of the month in April is Habit 8: Find Your Voice and Inspire Others to Find Theirs. This is a chance to think about our unique talents, strengths, and interests and how we can use them to reach our leadership potential. Please remember to complete our Family MRA Survey; the link is included in the Important Dates section of our newsletter.

To help your student perform their best during testing, here are some effective strategies to keep in mind:
Stay Organized: Encourage your child to keep their materials organized and to review their notes regularly.
Practice Relaxation Techniques: Deep breathing or short meditation can help reduce anxiety before and during tests.
Read Instructions Carefully: Remind your child to take the time to read all instructions thoroughly before starting the test.
Manage Time Wisely: Encourage them to keep track of time and to pace themselves through the test.
Review Answers: If time permits, they should review their answers before submitting the test.
Practice Positivity: Keep a positive attitude towards testing and remind your child that they can do well and encourage self belief.
Celebrate: Take a moment to celebrate each accomplishment. Plan for a fun outing or a special treat.
A healthy lifestyle is also important for students to achieve success. Below are some tips for living a healthy lifestyle:
Balanced Diet: Encourage your child to eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins. A healthy breakfast on test days will make a significant difference.
Regular exercise: Physical activity helps to reduce stress and improve concentration. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise per day.
Adequate Sleep: Ensure your child is getting enough restful sleep, especially the night before a test. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep for optimal performance.
Stay hydrated: Remind them to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.
Our second semester plan at Snyder Park will continue to focus on the same first semester goals with the addition of a writing focus. We have implemented a writing portion during our Stop, Drop, Read, and Write activity for each grade level on Fridays.
At Snyder Park we will increase the number of students (K-6) reaching their stretch growth from 22% to at least 33% and our student-led experiences will also increase from 0 to 2 by the end of the school year.
Our school wide attendance goal is for 93% of our students to attend school regularly. In September, we had 88.75% attend, October 92.46%, November 92%, December 90.33%, January 85.5%, February 85.5%, and March 88%. Each week, the grade level with the highest average attendance percentage receives a trophy that they get to keep for the entire week. We are hoping to reach our goal of 93% in April!
We have added a writing focus to our second semester goals. Please encourage your student(s) to write at home. Click here for a video on how to encourage your student(s) to write. Click here to help your student write a sentence and click here to help your student write a paragraph.
Please click this link to view our second semester plan goals. These goals are a work in progress that we will continue working towards for the remainder of the school year. Also included are some action steps to help us get there!

As an attendance incentive, we have 6 scooters for students to ride through our hallways! There will be multiple drawings in each grade for students who had perfect attendance during the week to have the opportunity to ride the scooters.
Our students are working hard on practicing their writing skills. They are focusing on sentence structure and paragraph writing. Below are a few pictures of student work displayed in our hallways. Let's take a moment to celebrate the growth our students are showing!
Our teachers and staff have reviewed our building wide expectations and procedures with students in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, playgrounds, and technology use. Our expectations are based on being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. For example, students must be respectful and raise their hand to speak in the classroom. They must stay in their seat and walk in the cafeteria. They must take care of their district issued device and only use approved sites at approved times. You can ask your student questions about these expectations to start a conversation!
The Health Center at Springfield High is up and running! It is located on the lower level of the High School with the main entrance behind the football stands. The Health Center will provide sick office visits, routine health screenings, updated vaccines, and counseling services. Any Springfield City School student with guardian consent can be seen and will be given priority. This facility is also a service for family members and SCSD staff. Appointments can be made by calling 937-717-2578. If a student is ill while at school they will need their school nurse to help decide if a sick appointment is needed and if so the nurse will help the family make arrangements. Kindergarten registration is now open for the 2025-26 school year. Please click here to register your Kindergarten student now!
In the morning the bus turnaround is for district buses to drop off students, however it has been allowed for parents to drop off students when it is clear. If you notice buses are parked, do not enter the turnaround. At times when there are no buses, you must drop off your student and leave. No waiting. The use of the turnaround for student drop off is subject to change based on bus complaints. If so, the turnaround will be blocked off until all buses arrive.
No parking in the turnaround during dismissal.
To pick your students up early in the office, please have a picture I.D. available. Students will not be released after 2:45p.m.
Please notify us of any dismissal changes before 2:30p.m. by calling the office at 937-505-4430.
Siblings will be picked up on big playground side.
Individual students will be picked up by the cafeteria doors.
School dismisses at 3:02p.m. Please be here no later than 3:02p.m.
If your students walk, please make sure they walk home directly after school. If your student is crossing Bechtle Ave., they must cross at Broadway Street (crossing light) for safety reasons.
In April, we are focusing on Habit 8: Find your voice and Inspire Others to Find Theirs. This habit gives us a chance to think about our unique talents, strengths, and interests and how we can use them to reach our leadership potential. When you use your strengths and talents to help others, you find your voice. When you find your voice, you inspire others to find theirs.
Below are some activities that you can do at home with your student:
1. At home with your child, pretend to be a newspaper reporter and interview each other. First, ask your child, "What do you do well?" and write his or her answer down. Then ask, "How can you help others?" Once you are done, switch roles.
2. Think about how you can use your strengths and talents to help others.
3. Help your child find their voice by asking these questions: What are your strengths and talents? What do you love to do? What would make a difference? Where is a need?

In April, we are bringing the Elementary Art Show to Snyder Park. We are celebrating the students that participated in the art show that took place at the Springfield Museum of Art. The artwork from the show will be on display starting the first full week of April.
“National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities.”
~American Library Association -
Here at the Snyder Park Library, I am passionate about helping each student discover their unique literary interests and develop a lifelong love of reading. I also enjoy guiding students as they explore their own creativity, gifts, and talents through hands-on activities and makerspace experiences. My hope is that they become lifelong library users who appreciate the vital role that libraries play in both personal and community growth. ~ Mrs. Greene ~
Here is a look at some of the fun we’ve had in the library this year….

Mrs. Fortman is our Staff in the Spotlight!
I’ve been married to my husband, Mark, for 21 wonderful years. Together, we have two amazing sons—Brady, 21, who is finishing his third year at Bowling Green State University, and Brock, 18, who is completing both his senior year of high school and his first year at Sinclair. Our family also includes Lulu, our sweet 3-year-old pup whom we adopted as a baby.
This is my 14th year in education. I spent 10 years as a Registered Behavior Technician and Para in the Bellbrook Sugarcreek School District. I’m now in my third year working as an Intervention Specialist in the Springfield City School District, where I continue to grow and learn alongside the incredible students I serve.
A quote I carry with me daily is from Rita Pierson: “Every child deserves a champion—an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.” These words reflect my mission and passion as an educator.
